Penn State AMA THON

The Penn State Dance Marathon is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, working to provide financial and emotional support to children and families who are impacted by pediatric cancer. Throughout the entire school year, PSMA is dedicated to aiding the in the THON effort to improve the lives of those affected by this by spreading hope, and to raise money in pursuit of a cure.

PSMA is lucky enough to have two THON families: the Wagner family, and the Krushinsky family. Our THON chair, Elise McAneny, is excited to devote her last year in PSMA to organizing the fundraising efforts for the kids. She previously served as the Assistant Director of PSMA’s Retail Division, and VP of Community & Social Impact.

Throughout the year, we have been able to raise money in various ways, and participate in other THON events. Last year, went on two canning trips, and raised $1,400. Also, we held a THON bake sale, raising $317. Lastly, we went on a trip to Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital, having the opportunity to meet many people who are involved with helping children and their families improve and have hope. This included a chaplain, psychiatrist, doctors, and even a music therapist. This year, we plan to go canvassing on Saturday, November 4th in the Hershey/Lebanon area to ask door-to-door for charitable donations towards THON. Later in the evening, the PSMA crew plans to meet up with our THON child, Austin, before heading home. This is just one of the many ways that PSMA hopes to be involved with THON in the 2017-2018 school year.
